Government Lifts Cap on Skilled 457 Visas - Migration Place

The government has announced that it is lifting the cap on subclass 457 visas, which allow for skilled workers to temporarily work in Australia and provide a pathway to permanent residency and citizenship.

The announcement reverses the decision made last year to cap the number of visas issued. Before the cap was introduced, the number of 457 visas being granted was quickly rising, more than doubling from 67,980 in 2009–10 to 126,350 in 2012–13.

With the cap lifted, there is no limit on how many 457 workers a company can nominate once its sponsorship is approved. This is good news for skilled workers who want to come to Australia, because it makes it easier to find a willing sponsor.

There has never been a better time to apply for a 457 visa. If you’re considering visiting, working in or moving to Australia, contact Zeke or Corina at mail@themigrationplace.com.au to discuss your visa eligibility and options.
