NEW: Chinese Working Holiday Visas

The much-anticipated launch of the Working Holiday Visa program for Chinese citizens has arrived! It is so in demand that the initial application quota was filled within minutes of opening!

Immediately after the launch, the Minister for Immigration, Peter Dutton, highlighted that the largest source of visitors to Australis came from China last financial year. Minister Dutton also flagged exciting new developments in future visa opportunities for the Chinese visitors to Australia. These include ten-year visitor visas, premium fast-track services and Chinese language support. However, for now, 5000 young Chinese citizens will soon be flocking to Australia’s sunny shores for an extended holiday with the opportunity to work and study during their stay.

The Working Holiday Visa allows visa holder to come to Australia for up to one year. During this time, visa holders can work, study, and travel around Australia. The visa is designed for young people aged between 18-30, and requires you to have enough money to both support yourself on a working holiday and buy a ticket home. Applicants should be aware of certain restrictions – if you have a child, this visa will not allow you to attach them as a dependent! Your partner can come with you, but they will need to apply for their own visa.

Applicants must also be aware of the Genuine Temporary Entrant criteria that Australia imposes on temporary visas – if the Department suspect that you are applying for this visa with ulterior motives, or that you intend to remain in Australia permanently, your application may be rejected.
