A Grace Period of Work Rights for Students and Working Holiday Makers! - Migration Place

As Australia needs to fill workforce shortages ASAP, the Australian Government is providing an additional offer, not just a rebate of the Visa Application Charge (VAC) for Student visa holders and Working Holiday Makers to stay in and come to Australia earliest possible.

VAC Rebate

Student visa holders who are currently offshore and travel to Australia between 19 January 2022 and 19 March 2022 will be eligible for a refund of their VAC.

Similarly, any Working Holiday Maker visa holder who is currently offshore and travels to Australia between 19 January 2022 and 19 April 2022 will be eligible for a refund of their visa application charge.

The VAC refund includes secondary visa holders.

Extended Work Rights

From 19 January 2022, students, both primary and secondary Student visa holders, are not limited to a visa work condition of 40 hours per fortnight. They can work additional hours in any sector of the economy to assist with Australia’s COVID-19 recovery. This temporary measure will be reviewed in April 2022.

For Working Holiday Makers (WHM), the Government provides a temporary relaxation of the 6-month work condition to allow WHM to continue to work for the same employer or organisation without requesting permission. This recovery program will be in place until 31 December 2022 when it will be reviewed by the Government.
