Since the Brexit news was released, we’ve received a significant amount of enquiries about migrating to Australia.
Indeed, in the last 3 days we’re seeing waves of people taking to social media talking about migrating overseas… and Australia is at the top of the hit list.
Obviously there is a perception that the UK is heading into uncertain times, and there are talks of another financial crash.
Rightly or wrongly, the consensus is that many voted for BREXIT in the belief it would address migration issues – by reducing the ability for cheap labourers to come from other parts of the EU, by obstructing refugees coming across the channel, and by reducing the influx of middle eastern migrants.
Australia is seen as a place which has handled these issues well.
The UK Press is also reporting that large volumes of people who voted for the UK to leave the EU:
- Did not really understand what would happen if the BREXIT vote was in favour of the exit from the EU.
- Have now realised that it is unlikely the borders will be blocked as they had hoped.
- Have now realised that the so called 350 billion per week the UK pays to Europe, will not be going to the NHS.
One thing that is certain is that people are not happy and things will change.
Of course it is early days, but the fact is change is on the horizon, and Australian employers should keep a close eye on the market, as talent from the UK, may well be available sooner than you think. It will be interesting to see what changes come through from the next Australia government with respect to 457 Visa and skilled labour visas.
