New legislation before the government will make it a criminal offence to benefit from offering a migration outcome for a 457 visa. The new crackdown on behaviour labelled as ‘payment for visas’ activity means that giving or accepting personal benefits to help your visa succeed will land both the sponsor and the visa applicant in trouble. Payments, discounts, services, property, or even gifts that influence your visa outcome can all add up to a maximum of a two year imprisonment sentence, a $64,800 fine or more.
