The Business Innovation and Investment Subclass 188 visa, Significant Investor stream, could be an option towards your permanent residence in Australia.
Pathway to permanent residence
With the Subclass 188 visa, which provides a stay period of up to 5 years, you can carry out investment activities in Australia, and bring eligible family members with you.
The Subclass 188 visa will enable you to apply for the permanent Business Innovation and Investment Subclass 888 visa, Significant Investor stream, if requirements are met.
Nomination
You must be nominated by an Australian State or Territory government agency, or Austrade, before being invited to apply for the Subclass 188 visa.
Investment
You need to invest at least $5,000,000.
If you are invited to apply on or after 1 July 2021, you must make a complying significant investment of at least $5,000,000.
You must have a genuine intention to hold that investment for the life of your provisional visa. You will be expected to make the investment in the following proportions:
- At least $1,000,000 in venture capital and growth private equity funds which invest in start-ups and small private companies.
- At least $1,500,000 in approved managed funds. The managed funds must invest in emerging companies listed on the Australian Stock Exchange.
- A balancing investment of at least $2,500,000 in managed funds. The managed funds can invest in a range of assets, including companies listed on the Australian stock exchange, Australian corporate bonds or notes, annuities and commercial real estate.
The funds used to make the complying significant investment must be lawfully acquired and unencumbered.
The investment is not to be used as a basis for security or collateral for a loan. Also, complying investments should be compliant with the Foreign Investment Review Board rules.
