New Skilled Occupation List – Are you still eligible? - Migration Place

There is good news for panel beaters and cabinet makers who wish to migrate to Australia because those occupations have been added to the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) as of 1 July 2015. This is a reflection of the gap between the amount of work available and the amount of Australians skilled in those areas.

Unfortunately, dentists, dental specialists and urban and regional planners wishing to migrate are on the losing end of the changes as their occupations have been removed from the SOL.

If you are a barrister, solicitor, accountant, medical laboratory scientist, petroleum engineer or work in occupational health and safety and are considering on migrating to Australia, now is the time to do it. These occupations are currently on the SOL, however, it is expected that the occupational ceiling of these jobs will be reduced and they are at risk of being removed from the SOL next time it is reviewed.

The SOL is the relevant occupation list for those interested in:

  • Independent points-based skilled migration and are not nominated by State or Territory government agencies;
  • Family Sponsored Points Tested visas; or
  • Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa applicants in the Graduate Work stream.

If you are interested in applying for any of these visas, it is imperative that you get in quickly and contact one of our experience migration lawyers to ensure you are at the top of your occupation group!
